DIY for Nature Conservation through Upcycling Workshop @ GGS

Learners of grades 6th through 8th attended a workshop on making pencils with paper. The workshop was held as part of the World Environment Week celebration.

The workshop was held as part of the World Environment Week celebration. The workshop was led by upcycling specialist Ms. Janesha P Padariya, the Co-Founder of Prukruti, a venture that is devoted to saving nature and the environment.

She showed her upcycling project makes use of newspaper and turns them into useful stationery items, one of them being pencils. She uses only bio-degradable materials such as newspapers. Apart from having the satisfaction of having done something for nature, albeit small, it enhances artistic sensibilities through creative and design thinking. Projects like hers have been contributing to efforts of conservation and nature in a commendable way.

She walked the children through a step-by-step process showing how the pulp created from newspapers can be used to house the graphite. Though it can be done by hand, machine made products naturally have a better finish, she told the gathering.
