Eco-Friendly Ganesh Visarjan @GGS

At GGS today, we had Ganesh visharjan. Following the traditional lesing and aarti, Ganeshji was bathed in milk and water. To mark the auspicious day, learners and educators dressed in traditional garb. Modaks and boondi laddus, traditionally said to be ganesha's favourite foods, were offered as prashadam & distributed among learners.

This event is widely observed and celebrated across the country, particularly in Maharashtra, in western India. The day falls on the fourth day of the Hindu month of Bhadra (August–September). This year's celebrations began on September 10 and end on September 19.

People decorate their homes with clay idols of Lord Ganesha and pray for wealth, good fortune, and knowledge for ten days.

Lord Ganesha is recognized as the God of Prosperity, Fortune, and Success, as well as the Destroyer of Evil. He is also known as Vighnaharta, and Ganesh Chaturthi is known as Vinayaka Chavithi or Vinayaka Chaturthi because of all of these attributes.

On the last day of the festival, the tradition of Ganesh Visarjan takes place. The concluding day of the 10-day festival is also popularly known as Anant Chaturdashi. As the word 'visarjan' implies, on this day immersion ('visarjan' means immersion) of Lord Ganapati's idol takes place in a river, sea or water body.

There is an interesting story behind the legend of Ganesh visarjan. It is believed that Lord Ganesha returns to Mount Kailash to join his parents Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on the last day of the festival. Ganesha, who is also known as the Lord of New Beginnings, is also worshipped as the Remover of Obstacles. It is believed that when the idol of the Ganesha is taken out for immersion, it also takes away with it the various obstacles of the house and these obstacles are destroyed along with the visarjan.

This time we had the most innovative and beautiful environmental friendly Ganesh Visarjan ceremony in the school’s ground with all the norms of social distancing. We also hope that, the Remover of Obstacles will shower us with his blessings and wipe out all the struggles from our life.
